About My Practice

People and their behavior exist within a larger context and it's important we work within that context. Together, we will build healthy change and work to understand the larger system of your life. We will find a way to both create positive change for you while still considering the health and well being of those outside the therapy room.

My purpose as a therapist is to help you create positive change in your life; to make things better. What that is, we will explore as we both bring knowledge and experience into the room. Finding that unique path to a positive outcome is what therapy is about.

Ideas you will encounter when you work with me:

  • Identity can't be dictated. - It must be experienced and determined by each person for themselves.

  • People are vast and fascinating. - Every person has their own background, history, and story which has led them to this place in time. All of those pieces come together to create you, a complex and interesting individual worthy of being understood.

  • Problems are complex. - They are created over time by many intersecting factors. It is through the process of understanding and working with a given issue that change can occur.

  • There are multiple truths and multiple realities. - Everyone’s perspective, on any given event or belief, is unique. Accepting this can be difficult for some people.

  • Power is a motivating force, used to create change. - Its uses and abuses are all around us. It must be explored and deconstructed to create positive change.

  • Every instance of connection has influence. - Every discussion, touch, significant look, or interaction with another person has the potential to move us. We use these moments to create change.

  • In every relationship there are both known and hidden truths. - Working to change the hidden to open and negotiated truths, is part of creating positive change.

  • Sexuality (and sexual identity) is an important and vital part of a person's life. - And it is not the source of every problem or issue. Exploring and talking about it is both normal and important.
